New Year’s Eve 2013, New Year’s Day 2014


On New Year’s Eve, lots of folks love to dance the night away, pop the cork on a bottle of champagne, and count the last seconds until midnight arrives. Then they throw confetti around and generally get rowdy and have a good time. Party on!

New Year’s Eve is on Tuesday of next week, so make plans now to attend one of the following New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Pikes Peak region. Included are New Year’s Eve parties, some of the restaurants offering special menus for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and hotels where you can stay while you party 2013 away.

Although most overnight accommodations book early, there were still a few rooms available as of this writing, and as one of the hotel owners mentioned, there are always cancellations. So even though New Year’s Eve is only a week away, you might still be able to secure a reservation for the night and make the arrival of 2014 a truly unforgettable experience.

Recently, the Woodland Country Lodge opened an expansive patio bar featuring live music and a spectacular view of the forested hillsides above Woodland Park. Now the new indoor section of the patio bar, the Lodge Pub has been completed and is open for business. The Key of Joy, self described as a “lyrical rock duo” plays a wide variety of music in addition to original material written by singer/songwriter Loren Joy. Joy and her husband Mason Bassuk are accomplished musicians. Joy sings and plays guitar and keyboards while Bassuk backs her up on drums and vocals. The couple already has two CDs, and a third one is currently in production. The Key of Joy plays an eclectic selection of jazz, rock and country with, according to Joy, an emphasis on “lyrical fusion.”

In Cripple Creek, the Imperial Hotel and Midland Depot Restaurant have undergone extensive renovations. All the rooms have been completely remodeled, including a brand new private bath in each room. Also located in the Imperial Hotel, is the Gold Bar Room Theater. This was the place to see the famous melodramas produced by the Mackin family as recently as the 1990s.
