Summer Gaming and Tourism Edition. This popular issue, published annually by TMJ news, is now available at local stores, businesses, retail outlets and at casinos.  The special edition features the latest information on local gaming activity, casino updates and information on special events and festivals, along with tourism and area recreation happenings. Wednesday, June 17

Wellness Walk. Scheduled for June 3 at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center at 9 a.m. Meet at the upper level and choose a one, two or three-mile hike. Maps are available. Healthy living tips and mindfulness exercises are available to enhance your walk. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Free admission.

The Cripple Creek City Council will meet on June 16 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting is available on Zoom or in-person.

June 18

TOPS. Takes Off Pound Sensibly. Meets every Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in the Church in the Wildwood (10585 Ute Pass Ave.) Green Mountain Falls, Co 80819. Affordable, effective weight loss.

The Woodland Park City Council will meet on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the WP Council Chambers next to city hall. The meeting is available in-person or on Zoom.

Friday, June 19

Farmers Market. The Woodland Park Farmers Market has kicked off for the season.  This popular event takes place Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June through September in Memorial Park on Henrietta and Center Street. It is part of the Teller County Farmers Market Association organization which provides a forum for sales of local produce and items associated with agriculture, garden & food. The association, originally formed in 1990 as Woodland Park Farmers Market, is operated by volunteers and administered by a Board of Directors.  It oversees two markets: Woodland Park Farmers’ Market (Summer) and Woodland Park Farmers Market Holiday Market. The Woodland Park Farmers Market is a family-friendly event, open to everybody. The market remains neutral in all matters. political, social and religious. Shining Mountain Opening. The Shining Mountain golf course is now officially open for the 2026 season.  Contrary to past years, this season will mark the first time the links property is under the ownership and management of the city of Woodland Park.  Check with the city’s park and recreation website for programs available at Shining Mountain this summer or call 719-687-7587 or check with information at the SM pro shop. Many key tournaments and events are scheduled in early summer. According to recent reports, the course is experiencing much improved conditions compared to previous years.   Also, check TMJ’s weekly Mountain Almanac section for updates. 

Victor Gem & Mineral Show. The annual Victor Gem & Mineral Show presented by the Southern Teller County Focus Group (STCFG) in Victor will be held June 19-21. The event offers a unique way to spend Father’s Day weekend in the cool and sunny mountain air. Bring Dad to Victor, find a pet rock, learn to pan for gold, and take in some free live music. The show will be held in downtown historic Victor and is open and free to the public. The show will include vendors selling polished gems, hand-crafted jewelry, rough slabs, specimens, cabochons, geodes, turquoise, and more. There will also be gold and gem panning at the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. Show hours are from 9 to 5 Friday and Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday. Jack Dempsey Days at the Double Eagle Hotel and Casino. Step back in time and experience the grit and glory of boxing history during Jack Dempsey Days at the Double Eagle Hotel & Casino. This exciting event celebrates the legendary Jack Dempsey—also known as “Kid Blackie”—whose rise to fame began right here in Cripple Creek’s mining camps.  Featuring a dynamic mix of professional and amateur boxing, Jack Dempsey Days honors a century of local boxing heritage with high-energy matches, historic storytelling, and a nod to the very spot where Dempsey first made his mark.  Join us June 20 & 21 for a one-of-a-kind event that brings Cripple Creek’s rich past to life in the ring. Chamonix Casino & Resort Concerts. Upcoming music concerts at Chamonix Casino & Resort in Cripple Creek continue through the summer of 2026. DDA Micro-Grant Program. The Woodland Park Downtown Development Authority is pleased to relaunch its Micro-Grant program for 2026. Grants are open to businesses and homeowners within the DDA boundaries of Woodland Park. The Micro-Grant Program is designed to provide financial assistance for eligible projects that meet the Program’s eligibility requirements.  objectives and purposes of the DDA within the District, such as stimulating economic vitality. Donkey Derby Days. One of Cripple Creek’s most popular and historic annual festivals takes place June 26–28 and features a slew of events throughout town. Donkey Derby Days is a three-day festival celebrating the town’s rich mining heritage and the iconic Cripple Creek donkey herd. Hosted by the Two Mile High Club, this long-standing tradition serves as the organization’s largest fundraiser, supporting the care and well-being of the community’s famous donkeys. This free, family-friendly event draws visitors from across the country to enjoy exciting donkey derby races, a lively parade, live music, food and retail vendors, and a variety of activities for all ages.

250th Celebration of America.  Throughout the country, celebration abound for this year’s special Independence Day celebration. This is especially true in Teller County, as a variety of communities, including Woodland Park and Cripple Creek, will feature special July 4th events. It also will mark the 9th annual kick-off of the Green Box Arts festival in Green Mountain Falls. Stay tuned for more details.
