Get Ready for Fun Activities Every Weekend in June

Even though the weather hasn’t seemed to quite warm up and infiltrate the Ute Pass region with sunny days, June is officially here.
Every year Teller County and surrounding areas sport a “Summer of Fun” with many popular events. This year is no different as many activities and special events start this weekend. And then, there is pretty much some type of fun offered every weekend in the region throughout the summer
The following is a glimpse of the popular events that take place during the month of June
Teller County Sheriff’s Open House, June 6 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
The summer month of fun outdoor events starts this weekend with the annual sheriff’s open house. Every year the sheriff invites vendors and law enforcement partners to have an outdoor “meet and greet” with the community.
During the open house event, the sheriff’s office employees fire up the grill and cook free hot dogs and hamburgers for the crowd. Snow cones will also be available. The event also features fun and games for children.
Throughout the event, visitors will get a chance to connect with the men and women in blue who protect and serve the community. Booths will be set up that provide information about local alert services and resources.
This year the following organizations will be represented: Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS), El Paso-Teller County E911, the Incredible Crash dummies and Teller County Search and Rescue. Current sheriff Jason Mikesell and sheriff candidate Kevin Tedesco will both be present to meet local residents.
Woodland Park Farmer’s Market, Every Friday in June, July and September 8 a.m.- 1p.m.
This Friday marks the big return of the Woodland Park Farmer’s Market located at the city’s Memorial Park. An arts and crafts fair also sets up during the farmer’s market.
Every year, the farmer’s market offers fresh produce along with several other homemade items. The arts and crafts fair offers a good opportunity for browsing for handmade goods.
Every Friday during the summer, the park gets packed with farmer’s market visitors.
Whether people wish to buy things for their house or get a good lunch, the farmer’s market is the place to be on Fridays. The event also features a slew of food trucks that offer hot, ready-to-eat meals.
Shooting Event: Sporting Clays or Trap, Friday, June 12 9 a.m.
This year a rather new event takes place to honor the Honorary Deputy Sheriff Association. The association that provides much-needed support to local law enforcement has chosen to put on a new kind of fundraiser event.
The event takes place at the Pikes Peak Gun Club in Colorado Springs, and local gun enthusiasts can test their skills The sporting clays event starts at 9 a.m. while the Trap event starts at 10 a.m.
Contestants can join individually for $250 or in a five-person team for $1,250. The cost includes breakfast, lunch, all field fees, ammunition and a gift bag with hearing and eye protection.
Shred Day, Saturday June 13 9 a.m.- noon
Every year, people find the need to shred unneeded documents.
The local Park State Bank & Trust hosts a shredding day every year. They open up their parking lot on a Saturday morning and let people come in and shred whatever paperwork they need for free
The shredding day is a good way to get some things around the house cleaned up. The bank offers their equipment for a free shredding day every year, as a way to give back to the community they serve.
Great Outdoors Fest Friday, June 19 4 p.m.- 8 p.m.
Most people that live in Colorado definitely take their outdoor recreation seriously. every year. As a result, Great Outdoors Adventures, located at 720 Highway 24 in Woodland Park, puts on a celebration dedicated to everything outside.
This year the event will feature live music, plus fun and games for the kids. There will be yard games along with a campfire and s’mores.
The event features outdoor recreation exhibitors along with several food trucks. This year they will also have an interactive Polaris and Jeep exhibit.
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Saturday June 21, 7:30 a.m.
Now that summer is almost here, it is time for the famous race up America’s Mountain. Tickets are now on sale to watch racers try their best at speeding up a 14,00- foot mountain with over 150 turns.
Catching the race is a blast, but for those who can’t make the trek up the mountain they can watch or listen to it live on the radio and internet. This year the local father/son racing duo Clint and Codie Vahsholtz will be testing their abilities once again.
95th Annual Donkey Derby Days, June 27, 11 a.m.
Donkey Derby Days also makes its big return in downtown Cripple Creek this month. The day filled with festivities includes donkey races, a parade, vendors, food, live music and a beer garden. This year, the event celebrates the Two Mile High Club’s 95th anniversary, America’s 250th birthday and Colorado’s 150 years of statehood.
