Public support for schools must come with public accountability. That is why 2B is structured differently from the previous arrangement.
Under 2B, the revenue will be used to pay down existing district debt rather than create new debt. This provides an important safeguard and gives taxpayers greater confidence that their money will be used for its intended purpose.
The measure also includes annual audits, public reporting, and a five-year sunset. These requirements help ensure transparency, oversight, and accountability for public dollars.
For every $100 spent on taxable purchases, 2B adds just 25 cents. Visitors and tourists will help share the cost, and local property taxes will not increase because of this measure.
Reducing existing debt payments will free up resources that can be directed toward what matters most: our students and their education.
Supporting 2B is not writing a blank check. It is supporting a carefully defined plan with financial safeguards and a clear purpose.
Our children deserve a financially stable school district, and our community deserves responsible stewardship of public dollars.
Please join me in voting YES on 2B.
