The summer of 2026 has produced a near-record drought, presenting a tough challenge for emergency responders and for locals who must abide by strict fire bans. Yes, forget about firing up a charcoal grill on your home deck, at least this summer.
That’s the bad news.
But for restaurant-goers, the weather conditions could not be more ideal for outdoor dining and hanging out at picturesque spots in the local High Country. In fact, the entire region now abounds with more choices for outdoor restaurant settings, with new eateries trying to offer distinct types of outdoor-eating options.
However, no matter how hard they try, no local eatery can rival the outdoor dining experience of Wines of Colorado (WOC) located in Cascade, with its massive two-story set-up and their incredible Creekside choices. How can you compete with outdoor seating on a wood-planked deck and tables right next to Fountain Creek, surrounded by trees. WOC is a perfect spot for an outdoor eating outing, or a place to wind down the day with quality sips from the state’s premiere vino or unique Colorado-inspired cocktails. The views are so amazing that some diners often wish they brought their fishing gear with them. You can hear the flows of Fountain Creek in intricate detail. This is where nature and culinary bliss mesh together in a rare fashion.
If current weather trends continue, late summer and early fall could offer even more ideal conditions for outdoor culinary outings at WOC, with more moderate temperatures in store. Because WOC is known as one of the region’s premier outdoor dining spots, reservations are highly recommended—especially if another Indian summer transpires.
Plus, compared to most restaurants in the area, WOC is open seven days a week with hours extending from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with few exceptions (other than if a horrific storm occurs).
And then there is the food and premiere staff, headed by owner Arin DeMay, who has held the reins of the restaurant since 2001. Arin and head manager Mel, coupled with their great and friendly wait staff, can give you advice regarding top choices for culinary and beverage picks. Favorite TMJ selections are the Chicken Parmesan, Buffalo Lasagna, Wine Burgers, Pan-Seared Trout, Fish Tacos, and more.
The Colorado wines there are amazing. My favorite is the Colorado Cellar, Pino Noir, which blends well with any dish crafted in the universe. But many other wine choices abound, along with great Colorado brews and cocktails. For those who are unsure about Colorado wines, the “wine flights” offer a good way to venture into the diverse Colorado vino world.
If you don’t feel like eating outdoors, fret not. Great options are available indoors or at the spacious bar, which I consider one of the top wine bars in the Pikes Peak region.
And as for awards, WOC boasts top finishes from Best Of contests, hosted by TMJ News. The Gazette, Pikes Peak Courier and more. WOC has also received amazing reviews from customers, dining publications, and area chamber of commerce organizations.
Special meals are also available, such as their Thursday Steak nights, and during the off season, WOC sports special pairings. This is a culinary and wine feast not to be missed.
