Fireworks Cancelled in Cripple Creek
The City of Cripple Creek has canceled its 4th of July Fireworks Celebration due to fire concerns and potential resource constraints. Fire Chief Joe O’Conor made the decision after careful consideration, with full support from Mayor Annie Durham. The City will reschedule the fireworks celebration to a later date when weather and resource conditions allow for a safe event. Updates will be provided as soon as new information becomes available. “Our priority is public safety and ensuring we can respond to active fires and other emergencies,” said Fire Chief O’Conor. “It would not be responsible to proceed with a fireworks display under these circumstances.” Mayor Annie Durham added, “We remain committed to celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary and want to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone. While the fireworks are cancelled, all other festivities will proceed as planned.” All other events in Cripple Creek will continue as scheduled, including the parade at 11:00 AM, the Gem and Mineral Show at the District Museum, the Once Upon a Time in the West Art Show at the Cripple Creek Heritage Center, food trucks, live music, and a beer garden.
Fireworks Cancelled in Woodland Park
One of the hardest parts of serving a mountain community is knowing that sometimes the safest decision isn’t the most popular one. After careful evaluation of current wildfire and environmental conditions, and with the support of NETCO professionals, the City has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display.
Living in the City Above the Clouds means being surrounded by incredible forests, open spaces, and natural beauty. It also means sharing responsibility for protecting them. During periods of heightened wildfire risk, even a single spark can have devastating consequences. Protecting lives, homes, businesses, our public lands, and the first responders who stand ready to protect them must always come first.
As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we hope you’ll join us in honoring the spirit of Independence Day by spending time with family and friends, supporting local events and businesses, and creating memories that don’t put our community at risk.
Community members of all ages are invited to join the Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration taking place at Memorial Park. Events kick off at 7:00 AM with sunrise yoga, and run through 2:30 PM when tug-of-war concludes the afternoon. You can find the schedule of events on the organization’s Facebook page.
