The Ute Pass-Woodland Park Kiwanis Club will meet on Wednesdays at 6:45 a.m. in the Crystola Roadhouse in Crystola.
TSC (Teller Senior Coalition) Transit is excited to announce our bus service on Wednesdays and Fridays in Woodland Park and the lower Ute Pass area. TSC also offers a joint venture with Cripple Creek Transit on Wednesdays to provide much needed transportation service between Cripple Creek and Woodland Park. TSC Transit will be picking up from the Senior Center and will be making stops at Pikes Peak Family Medicine, Pikes Peak Regional Hospital, City Market, Safeway, Walgreens, Walmart and the Department of Social Services upon request. In addition, new ride services are available on a limited basis to Green Mountain Falls, Cascade and Manitou Springs. Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Mountain Rep Theatre group is now featuring The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Butte Theatre in Cripple Creek, with performances Thursdays through Sundays. The evening shows are slated for 7 p.m. with two matinee performances scheduled at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Butte’s version of the cult classic has received rave reviews. Halloween BOOzaar. It’s time for Cripple Creek Parks and Recreation’s 22nd Annual Halloween BOOzaar, Trunk or Treat, and Costume Contest! It is scheduled for Friday, October 26 from 5 to 8 pm. Come to the Henry C. “June” Hack Community Center located at 128 E. Bennett Ave. in Cripple Creek, to celebrate Halloween at our BOOzaar Halloween Carnival. This event provides a safe place for the children to have fun, show off their costumes, win prizes and candy too! Also, we will have our annual Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, October 31 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Individuals and businesses alike are welcome to join our Trunk or Treat. We ask that you decorate the trunk of your vehicle, stock it with purchased and store wrapped candy and the kids will come. There will be a nice prize for the best decorated trunk. This event will also be at 128 E. Bennett Ave. Last but not least, our Costume Contest will be going on during the Trunk or Treat. Come inside for a warm cup of cocoa and to show off your costume. Mueller In Gold. As the warmth of summer gives way to cooler nights, celebrate fall at Mueller State Park, as the forest turns golden! Typical weather in the fall at Mueller brings picture-perfect, blue-sky days. A full schedule of naturalist programs can help you to look, learn and enjoy the surroundings. Evening amphitheater programs will continue on weekends and guided hikes are available almost daily. Special programs include elk bugling hikes, a full moon hike, and fall challenge hikes! Fossil Beds Activities. The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is open year-round. During October, the Monument is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekly programs include a variety of programs such as yoga hikes and art shows. There are no additional fees for any park programs beyond the daily entrance fee of $7.00 per adult (15 and younger are free). Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument offers 15 miles of beautiful, yet lesser known, hiking trails to explore, a free Junior Ranger Program, three short self-guided trails, a park video and museum exhibits, and bookstore. Nov. 6. Election Deadline. Election ballots for more than 17,000 registered voters in Teller County, for the Nov. 6 elections, were mailed out, starting Oct. 16. Most voters should have received their ballots by now. The ballots must be returned by Nov. 6. For questions, call 719-689-2951.
Ute Pass-Woodland Park Kiwanis Bingo. Join the fun at the Crystola Roadhouse during the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Twenty dollars buys a packet for 10 games, 6 cards for each game It’s a great opportunity to have fun and socialize with your friends and neighbors. Preview of Charis Bible College Auditorium. Local Woodland Park Chamber members, government officials, and press will gather for the opening of Charis Bible College’s newest building. On October 30, the Andrew Wommacks Ministries will invite Woodland Park Chamber members to come to their Auditorium Open House. There will be light refreshments, speakers, and a self-guided tour of The Auditorium. Press and government representatives will be on hand to help us celebrate the opening of this new building on the campus of Charis Bible College. David: The King of Jerusalem. In partnership with 7m Ventures, Inc., Andrew Womack Ministries is premiering “David: The King of Jerusalem”—a hero for all ages. This new musical is written by Robert and Elizabeth Muren, directors of Charis Bible College’s Creative Arts School. Elizabeth Muren co-directs the production with Adam Stone, the school’s coordinator. The musical features a cast of over fifty members, from both Charis Bible College and The Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida, where Elizabeth also serves as creative director.” It will be performed at Charis Bible College on Nov. 2. Craft Fair. The sixth annual Dayspring Craft Fair happens Saturday, November 3, at Dayspring Christian Fellowship, 1061 Rampart Range Road in Woodland Park. This colorful event, which has quickly become a community favorite, runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. one day only. Admission is free. A vast array of unique and beautiful items by local Christian artists and craftspeople will be offered at excellent prices. There will also be a bake sale and many other surprises. At least 20% of the sales from this special day will be donated to The Voice of the Martyrs, to support persecuted Christians around the world. A full 100% of the proceeds from the bake sale and another room of new items will also be contributed to VOM. There are still some spaces available for Christian vendors to sell their items. Victor Lowell Thomas Documentary Showing. If you watch a newscast today, download a news video, listen to the radio or a podcast then you are benefitting from the work of Lowell Thomas.
In the 1930s Lowell Thomas was arguably more famous than any American journalist has ever been. Thomas dominated both network radio news and the newsreels shown in movie theaters back when they represented the only chance a mass national audience had to hear or see, rather than just read, the news. His voice, face and take on contemporary events were almost unavoidable.
Lowell Thomas, who grew up in and got his start in journalism in Victor, Colorado, is the subject of a new documentary film that will be shown in Victor Saturday, Nov. 3. The Victor Lowell Thomas will present, courtesy of the film’s producer, Rick Moulton, Voice of America: Lowell Thomas and the Rise of Broadcast News. The full-length feature film will be shown at 3 p.m. at the Victor Community Center, 2nd St. and Portland Ave., Victor, CO. Admission is by donation at the door. Birds of the Florissant area. The Pikes Peak Historical Society invites you to learn more about the Birds of the Florissant area at the PPHS monthly Chautauqua on Sunday, November 18th at 2pm at the Florissant Library. A special presentation will be done by Debbie Barnes Shankster, the author of several books dealing with birds in the area. The library is located adjacent to the Florissant Community Park on 334 Circle Drive in Florissant. First Christian Church in Colorado Springs (16 E. Platte Avenue) is presenting the Little London Winds, Colorado Springs’ premier wind ensemble, in their first formal concert of the season, led by their new director, Joe Olivieri.
