TSC (Teller Senior Coalition) Transit is excited to announce our bus service on Wednesdays and Fridays in Woodland Park and the lower Ute Pass area. TSC also offers a joint venture with Cripple Creek Transit on Wednesdays to provide much needed transportation service between Cripple Creek and Woodland Park. TSC Transit will be picking up from the Senior Center and will be making stops at Pikes Peak Family Medicine, Pikes Peak Regional Hospital, City Market, Safeway, Walgreens, Walmart and the Department of Social Services upon request. In addition, new ride services are available on a limited basis to Green Mountain Falls, Cascade and Manitou Springs. Senior Center Car Show Pancake Breakfast. A Car Show Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Woodland Park Senior Center, SE corner of Pine Street and Lake Avenue, Saturday, September 8 from 7 am to 11 am. For a breakfast guaranteed to keep you going throughout the Car Show day, fill up with all you can eat fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, melon and the best biscuits and gravy around! Your home town seniors will be flipping pancakes and scrambling eggs, to be served up with juice and coffee or hot tea for only $8. Kids 6 and under eat for $2. Our open to the public event helps to support the programs and activities of the Woodland Park Senior Center. We appreciated the support of each one of you!
Cruise Above the Clouds. The 27th annual Cruise Above the Clouds show will roll into Woodland Park and Cripple Creek on Sept. 8-9. This is one of the region’s most popular events, winning top laurels in the Best Of The High Country competition, hosted by TMJ. Several hundred classic vehicles are displayed in downtown Woodland Park and in Memorial Park on Sept. 8 before heading to Cripple Creek in the afternoon. The cars are displayed in Cripple Creek on Sept. 9.
Nuthin’ But Blues FREE concert on the green will be held Saturday, September 8, starring “Denver’s Queen of the Blues” Hazel Miller and the Hazel Miller Band at 12:30 p.m. The opening act will feature New York State Blues Hall of Famer Chaz Depaolo with his band at 11 a.m. The concert will be held at the Midland Pavilion, next to Ute Pass Cultural Center at 210 E. Fossil Beds September Happenings. Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is open year round. During September, the Monument is open 9 am to 5 pm (with extended hours 8 am – 6 pm during Labor Day Weekend). During the month of September there will be limited interpretive programs offered daily depending upon staffing levels. These programs may include talks, walks, fossil demonstrations, and tours of an 1878 homestead. Please call ahead for more details at (719) 748-3253. The weekly programs include: Yoga Hikes – Mondays, 9 am to 10:30 pm. Join a certified yoga instructor and a Park Ranger for a 1 hour and 15 minutes, 1 mile yoga hike. This will be a hike interspersed with standing yoga poses. This program is geared for beginner to intermediate yoga enthusiasts. Meet at the visitor center. The Fossil Demonstration Excavation Site will occur on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm. Meet geologist, Dr. Bob Carnein at the demonstration excavation site and see the fossil beds in situ and learn about how excavations are conducted. This site is located off the Petrified Forest Loop approximately 1 mile round trip from the visitor center.
The Special Events include a Free Fee Day and Public Lands Day on Sept. 22 from 9 am to 5 pm. Enjoy your public lands on National Public Lands Day free! The Monument has 15 miles of hiking trails, a museum and film, and self-guided trails. Kids can earn a Junior Ranger Badge by completing a Junior Ranger gamebook available at the visitor center desk. A Night Sky Program will occur on Sept. 28 from 7:30 pm to 10 pm. Join park staff and members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to gaze at the dark skies above Florissant Fossil Beds in search of planets, galaxies, nebulas, and more. Meet at the visitor center. An the infamous Elk Hikes will occur in September and October.They kick off Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 from 4:45 pm to 7:15 pm. Join a ranger for a RESERVATION ONLY evening hike, to listen to the magical sounds of elk bugling. These 1-2 mile, off-trail hikes and can be in rugged terrain at times. The 2018 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held in Lion’s Park in Woodland Park at the corner of Hwy. 24 and Hwy. 67 on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The ceremony will start at 7:30 a.m., and it will last about 45 minutes. Honorary speeches and tributes will be conducted by Mayor Neil Levy, a member of the Teller County Board of County Commissioners, the sheriff and others.

Fall Activities at Mueller. As the warmth of summer gives way to cooler nights, celebrate fall at Mueller State Park, as the forest turns golden!Typical weather in September at Mueller brings picture-perfect, blue-sky days. Cripple Creek’s Big Aspen Happnin.’ Scheduled for Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 and showcases the town’s third annual fall festival, capped by live music, street vendors, a rock climbing wall, a 150-foot obstacle course, a giant slide and an appearance by The Flying W Wranglers. Master Plan Meeting. A joint meeting of the planning commission and board of trustees will be held at the Green Mountain Falls Town Hall on Sept. 11. The purpose of the session will be to obtain a detailed update on the comp plan, known as the master plan, project. This is a $100,000 project being funded by the state Department of Local Affairs and the Kirkpatrick Foundation.
Culturally Modified Trees Presentation. The Pikes Peak Historical Society has been documenting human-modified trees for almost 20 years. These remarkable living artifacts, displaying a variety of unusual shapes, are truly works of art, sculpted by highly talented and creative peoples,. The Pikes Peak Historical Society invites you to learn more about Culturally Modified Trees at the PPHS monthly Chautauqua on Sunday, September 30th at 2pm at the Florissant Library. The library is located adjacent to the Florissant Community Park on 334 Circle Drive in Florissant. This program is presented as a public service of the Pikes Peak Historical Society in partnership with the Rampart Library District.Admission is free and refreshments are served. Final Mining tours. Experience mining old and new this summer and explore gold rush history past and present at the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. Tour experiences, sponsored by the Newmont Mning Corporation, will offer the chance to see giant haul trucks, shovels and drill rigs in action in the large surface mine between Victor and Cripple Creek, Colorado. Learn about the modern refining methods while helping to preserve the district’s 1890’s history – all tour proceeds go to the Museum to help offset operations and building renovation costs. This summer the mine tours will be available May 26 through Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., daily except no tours will be held on Thursdays. Final Cemetery Tours. Step back in time and learn about Victor’s 1890’s cemetery, its residents, and the history that brought them to the gold mining camp. These walking tours of the Sunnyside Cemetery are sponsored by the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum and will be held two Saturdays of each month from June 9 through the end of September as weather permits.Remaining tour dates are Sept. 8, 22.Local historians Veldean Myers and Alicia Petri will provide insights into the cemetery and its history.
