By Eli Stone:
“The First Amendment is often inconvenient. But that is beside the point. Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech.”
“People have a right to the Truth as they have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”~Frank Norris
“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.”~Harry Truman
“Nothing could be more irrational than to give the people power, and to withhold from them information without which power is abused. A people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with power which knowledge gives. A popular government without popular information or the means of acquiring it is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy, or perhaps both.~JAMES MADISON
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” First Amendment to the Constitution, The Bill of Rights
There has been much written on the freedom of speech, and the press, free exercise of religion (not the freedom from religion), and the right to assembly and demanding redress from government wrongs. Today we face a proposition that may strip the teeth from the bill of rights thereby nullifying all of our rights. Without the second amendment standing inviolable and inalienable we cannot protect the other amendments from being dismantled. But we must remember our first amendment first.
That is why the first amendment is so important. The journalist has been protected for many years now by the Constitution of the United States. It would seem like most journalist would die or kill to protect this valuable livelihood. But we find many journalists and their news outlets lying in the name of God knows what. I think many news outlet owners make sure that the news that is reported supports their political agenda.
The “Journalist’s Creed,” as written by Walter Williams when he founded the Missouri School of Journalism more than a century ago states “Journalists must be public trustees with the full measure of responsibility to the public. That accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism. A single standard of truth must prevail for all.”
Joel Gilbert, filmmaker and producer of Dreams of my Real Father’s, appeared at a recent National Press Club in Washington to talk about the questions raised in his film. “The Journalist’s Creed is like the doctor’s Hippocratic Oath, but for journalists. Imagine if all physicians chose to ignore the Hippocratic Oath? We’d all get sick. In this case, we are all becoming badly infected with Marxism.” Pointedly, he noted the journalists’ credo states “that suppression of the news is indefensible.”
But if we look around we see the news media, especially the mainstream media (ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, and even Fox News on some occasions) are not on track. The lame stream media, as most people so fondly call the major outlets these days, is always pushing political agendas for the big government types. Spewing false propaganda, like when Bill O’Reilly touts “our democracy”, or when the government suppresses information to protect its own butt from the well-deserved ire of the constituency, it seems that it is all aimed at granting our ever growing government more “POWER”.
My job is opining, but I long for the truth, open and fair with all the facts put in front of me. It is the job of journalists everywhere to report and print the truth. But! With so many government agencies refusing to release information in the name of the government, all the way from Washington DC to the Teller County Sheriff’s office, how can we the people make informed decisions about what is going on in our world? How do we know when things are being covered up? How do we make informed decisions about our votes if we cannot access the truth? WE CANNOT!
While we may not be able to influence the world over with the truth, and I have found that there are a lot of people out there who don’t want to know the truth because it is painful and upsetting.
Take this example for instance, and understand that this is MY opinion. The Sandy Hook Newtown Tragedy where 20 children and six adults were ruthlessly murdered by a person who killed his mother first and took her weapons to commit this atrocity. In a few hours 27 lives snuffed out. But you and I are complicit in a far greater atrocity and we are forced to do it by government mandate. There is an average of 4,383 babies killed every day right here in the US. You and I help pay for it through our tax dollars being doled out to Planned Parenthood. But we aren’t banning Doctors licenses or scalpels or abortificents. I do think that freedom of choice is a woman’s right in this case. That is a decision to be made between a woman and her maker. But, in my humble opinion, forcing everyone to be complicit in paying for what is tantamount to killing unborn children just so people have that “freedom” is not cool. But killing THE unborn is okay, once the unborn draws a breath it is not okay…..I just don’t get the difference. If my child did something wrong and looked like he or she was going to be a vicious human being doing wrong to others should I or should I not have the right to take them out of this world? WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ABORTING IN UTEREO OR POST PARTEM? At the same time where do I get off forcing that opinion on others if I believe in liberty? I am entitled to my opinion I am not entitled to transgress others actions by force of action.
I mean if the child is displaying really bad behavior like abusing animals or playing with fire, is there not the potential that this child might grow up bad? Should I not deprive him of his existence before he does wrong to others? It’s the same with the government stripping us of our absolute right to keep and bear arms. It is the same with the press being censored because the government might be embarrassed. It is the same with stripping you of your driver’s license because you might drink and drive. The way the government acts towards we the people is that we are all guilty of crimes uncommitted due to our potential as malignant human beings to do WRONG!
The Federal Public Servants have gotten so out of control with laws that violate the constitution that our way of life is in jeopardy of disappearing all together. Those in charge, past and present, have over stepped their boundaries so far that they believe that they are rulers with infinite power to bend everyone to their will and the will or whim that suits whoever is in charge at the moment. The never ending stream of rules and regulations need to be rolled back and people need to make their own choices based on their beliefs and values and be prepared to pay for those choices as long as those choices do not infringe on others. States need to make their own laws and regulate themselves as long as those regulations do not infringe on our constitutional rights. Journalists were the watchdogs of the people. The media needs to once again be the guardians of the truth and report the truth without regard to political agendas and helping big government formulate and push forward opinions that are considered the law that is good for all.
So I challenge anyone who knows a journalist to bug the hell out of that journalist and ask about their writing and why protecting the government, especially local government from exposure that might create discomfort for the exposed public servant is on the journalist’s agenda. Why not print the truth, or at least as much as people will admit to? Why not call public servants out on dirty little secrets? Why not demand the truth? I personally applaud the efforts of Private First Class Bradley Manning, the American soldier accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of classified and confidential military and diplomatic documents to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks. I think his intentions were good…his execution of the plan left a lot to be desired. I am all about embarrassing our highly official PUBLIC SERVANTS when they get out of line.
Okay, I know the truth might be uncomfortable….those of you who can’t handle the truth can go back to sleep now. You will need your rest to perform your duties as a slave for the great and glorious “officials” of the “establishment”.
Till next time, Mad Dog and Eli Stone will continue to bring you their opinion about the truth as far as they can find the truth, where ever it may be hidden. Maybe this country wouldn’t be so close to invoking the second amendment if people were honest all along….but that would upset Obama and his Progressive (communist) Agenda now wouldn’t it? And to let you know, we have no “political” agenda other than to remain free AND SEE OUR PUBLIC OFFICIALS DO RIGHT BY THE PEOPLE WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF THE LAW! WOOF!
“The Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have [to] bare the secrets of government and inform the people.”~HUGO BLACK
“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.”~THOMAS JEFFERSON
“The press must be free; it has always been so and much evil has been corrected by it. If government finds itself annoyed by it, let it examine its own conduct, and it will find the cause.”~THOMAS ERSKINE
