Teller County finds itself no different than the rest of the state when it comes to one popular type of meal.
Hamburgers deem themselves popular across the state as a study recently found 84 percent of Coloradans enjoy beef burgers and 79 percent eat them at restaurants at least once a month. In Teller County, these rates are probably much higher, according to culinary experts.
Some places choose to decorate their beef patties with unique toppings. Other set their hamburgers apart by using locally raised meats.
However, The Creek restaurant in Cripple Creek sets their burgers apart by using elk meat. In a region where hunting is common, the addition of game meat to their menu definitely sets the eatery above the rest.
Using an elk patty instead of beef seems to give the burger a unique taste that locals and visitors tend to love. The subtle “wild game” flavor at a reasonable price proves to be keep elk lovers returning.
