Dear Editor:

SUPPORT CRIPPLE CREEK’S LODGING TAX

AS A CITIZEN OF CRIPPLE CREEK, I STRONGLY SUPPORT THE LODGING TAX INITIATIVE PROPOSITION 2A THAT WILL APPEAR ON THE UPCOMING NOVEMBER BALLOT.
TO CLARIFY, THE LODGING TAX IF PASSED WILL NOT IMPACT THE RESIDENTS OF CRIPPLE CREEK. IT WILL AFFECT ONLY PAYING HOTEL CUSTOMERS AND DOES NOT APPLY TO ROOMS THAT ARE GIVEN AWAY, REFERRED TO AS”COMP ROOMS.”
THIS 6 PERCENT TAX ON THE HOTEL OR ROOM CHARGE IS HOPED TO GENERATE APPROXIMATELY $300-$600 THOUSAND DOLLARS ANNUALLY. CRIPPLE CREEK PLANS TO SPEND THE MONEY IN SUPPORT OF THE MARKETING AND EVENTS DEPARTMENT, WITH THE AIM OF ATTRACTING MORE VISITORS TO OUR TOWN.
IF THE LODGING TAX INITIATIVE IS NOT APPROVED, DUE TO DECREASING REVENUES, THE CITY WILL BE UNABLE TO CONTINUE TO SPEND THE CURRENT AMOUNT OF MONEY ON MARKETING/EVENTS, ROAD MANTAINENCE, POLICE AND FIRE IN THE COMING YEARS.
PLEASE VOTE “YES” ON THE LODGING TAX PROPOSAl, PROPOSITION 2A. IT WILL SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF OUR COMMUNITY, THROUGH THE CITY’S MARKETING/EVENTS AND CONTINUING FUNDING OF VITAL CITY SERVICES.
STEVE ZOELLNER.
