Commentary by Eli Stone:
“Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits.”
While on vacation in the northeastern U.S., I had the opportunity to observe peoples’ driving habits up close and personal. I personally think the reason everyone is in a rush there is so they can get to the next traffic jam so they can have a coffee break or finish that book they’ve been dying to complete. I travelled through southern New York state and discovered a lush and rich agricultural area with friendly people and farm stands where peaches, corn, potatoes and any variety of fresh garden goodness can be purchased…..I ate peaches for three days straight on my return trip and really enjoyed the fact that I stopped and shopped, buying stuff straight from the fields. If you wanna live healthier and eat better, patronize your local farms for sure.
Labor Day Weekend is upon us once again and we Americans have been afforded the opportunity of a lifetime. Now that we are all returning from our vacations and settling in for another Colorado winter we all have the opportunity to work harder to make ends meet. Ben Bernanke actually said…
“The recent deep recession and the subsequent slow recovery have created severe budgetary pressures not only for many households and businesses, but for governments as well. Indeed, in the United States, governments at all levels are grappling not only with the near-term effects of economic weakness, but also with the longer-run pressures that will be generated by the need to provide health care and retirement security to an aging population. There is no way around it–meeting these challenges will require policymakers and the public to make some very difficult decisions and to accept some sacrifices. But history makes clear that countries that continually spend beyond their means suffer slower growth in incomes and living standards and are prone to greater economic and financial instability.”
Really Ben? It took you this long to figure out that you can’t rape the economy forever? This really isn’t that big a deal for those who are prepared to work for a living and know how to barter and make ends meet. Those who are dependent upon the good graces of the government as their only source of income may have another thing coming though. Times are a changing and so is the value of our dollar. Thank you to our wonderful fascist state for make government the arbiter of jobs and economic growth.
We also get to work harder at maintaining our privacy with all the state sponsored snooping being conducted by the NSA. World News Daily reported that’ “The National Security Agency, the secretive federal department under fire for spying on U.S. citizens, is now accused of crushing the free-speech rights of a businessman clowning around about the NSA. At issue is use of the NSA logo, which was partially altered by LibertyManiacs owner Dan McCall. He kept the name of the agency and most of the artwork intact, but changed the bottom portion from “United States of America” to the laugh-inspiring “Peeping while you’re sleeping” and “The NSA – The only part of government that actually listens.” If you really want to see some action get sideways of the government power brokers and threaten to expose them…..it sort of appears that the Obama Administration took lessons from the Clintons for dealing with those who could embarrass or expose the misdeeds of those in government. Andrew Breitbart and Michael Hastings from the Rolling Stones found out the easy way to an early demise is to leak your story early. I say this because both reporters, renowned for their reporting of government and trying to be good journalist met that early demise and we never got to read the stories they were “about” to release for publication. Oh well, government does what it has to do to keep from being embarrassed. After all those in government are just doing their job.
We can also work harder at staying alive, we now have a President and an Attorney General who deem it their personal right or responsibility…or something like that, to execute or indefinitely detain any person they deem necessary who might be a danger to the US. Now if anyone picks up a sword against me or my family, that is in fact an act of war and I am allowed to defend myself against that act. Unless of course it is the federal government then they have the right to act against me and mine….right, wrong, or indifferent. And we as a people are allowed to sit and accept the abuses meted out by people who are “Just doing their jobs.”
Doing our jobs has become more difficult over time due to the dynamic nature of this fast paced world. There are those who want to rape the world and there are those who want to save the world. Then there are those who just want live in this world and hopefully leave it none the worse for wear and tear.
Me I want live, love, and laugh in this life. I want to leave something behind for my children that they can be proud of when I am gone. But the fact remains that there are those in government who need me to work even harder so they can maintain their privileged life styles at others expense.
So I have decided that if I want to get ahead I really do need to be industrious and thrifty….and brave. I had some grandiose ideas about work when I retired from the military. I wanted to be a business owner and run a tourist oriented dude ranch where folks could come and relax and enjoy life to its fullest. Then I got a dose of reality and found out that the land of opportunity required some degree of savvy for so many laws that it discouraged me from being a business owner. But today I feel a little different in that I understand having a cottage industry that is not a business can actually work, just don’t get caught doing business without a license….somebody in government is bound to get butt hurt.
So as the new school year takes off and vacations come to a close we know that we must work harder, depend less on government….and well ignore their mandates if we ourselves are to prosper. Myself, when I do a job I do it to the best of my ability and I look upon the spoils of my endeavors as a gift of the creator and not an allowance from government.
So, go forth and work hard, take no credit and advance no credit, hide what you can and prosper. If you decide to work that way you might actually make it through the coming tough times. Appearances are everything to the average person, but those in government care little if any how they appear to the average person anymore. So while those in government are “just doing their job” go out and do your job. Be a good patriot, engage in free market commerce and get yourself out of debt, you will amazed at how liberating it is to actually be free……and besides, you won’t have to work nearly as hard at making a living when you stop giving to the robber barons who do not sleep. Remember freedom isn’t free you actually need to fight for it and take that chance of doing what you want….but remember, there are those who will try and set up stumbling blocks…..they are just doing their jobs. Okay, back to work, I am sure that someone in government will need an expensive vacation soon and who is going to pay for it if not you…then who?
