Talk About Stupid

News Channel 13 “COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Economists said that high apartment rental prices and low vacancy rates mean the state of the local economy is improving. A new report released by the Colorado Division of Housing pointed out that apartment rental prices have risen for the ninth straight quarter.

According to the report, the average rent in the Colorado Springs metro area rose year over year, climbing 2.4 percent to $754. The vacancy rate is currently about 6.4 percent.” Hmmmmmm, I wonder if the reason for the lack of rentals is that there are thousands of soldiers moving here with their families….our gain is someone else’s tough economic times coming their way. But remember, soldiers are deficit spenders. They pay taxes from the taxes they are paid. I love our soldiers. I think government officials and economists are stupid. So far in the recent past we have lost Pegasus the Mediterranean café, the flower shop near the school, Jo Mama’s Pizzeria, the candle shop in Gold Hill, Quiznos, Gold Hill Jewelers and Gifts, the Pass It On used sporting goods, and the warehouse clothing store. Happy Trails Daycare is closing soon and lord knows what else. Business has never been easy in Weirdland Park.

“It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful.” Anton LaVey Having been in a special unit in the military, it never ceases to amaze me how many people wanted to be, thought about being, or attempted to be, in one of those special units. In fact it never ceases to amaze me how many guys were in special units that were so special and secret that they never had to keep records.

A guy walked into a local hangout a few nights ago and it was apparent that he had a few drinks before arriving there. His accent said he was from the northeast…say New York City or maybe Boston. He didn’t claim to be in a special unit like the SEALS or Green Berets but he kept talking about being a Master Chief in the navy with twenty three years service. He kept talking about having eleven grandchildren. He kept saying that he owned and operated a construction firm in Florida for the past thirty years. He kept saying he was forty six years old. The gentleman started a construction firm in Florida at sixteen, simultaneously did twenty three years of service in the military, and got out for a while but was recalled to go do a sniper mission in Somalia and he did get picked up by the SEALs when he finished sniping, and managed to father enough kids early enough to give him 11 grandkids by the time he was forty six years old……my math sucks! I hope he had a really bad hangover the next day. But my arithmetic is pretty sound.  I think alcohol makes people stupid, and lots of alcohol makes lots of people really stupid. Let’s drink alcohol and make stupid decisions is one of my FAVORITE t-shirt quotes.

“Stupidity has a knack of getting its way.” Albert Camus quotes According to the Canada Free press, Fox News’ Martha McCallum advised Thursday that the Obama Administration has been quietly sending missives to the Supreme Court threatening that if it doesn’t rule in his favor on ObamaCare, Medicare will face disruption and “chaos.” Therefore, if SCOTUS rules in favor of the US Constitution, Obama & Co will begin its campaign to either destroy Medicare or make those on it suffer greatly. The Obama syndicate is said to be threatening to hold off Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals if SCOTUS does not comply with Obama’s demands and submit to him. “We are confident that this will be upheld, because it should be upheld.” BH Obama Using the same argument , “As for me I am confident that I will be a millionaire next year because I should be.” Mad Dog Murf…..Wait, I hope I ain’t stupid, so me making a million dollars cuz it should happen will probably never happen, unless I figure out a way to make it happen. But that would mean lots of hard work and application of genius….now genius, that I may be short on.

“The wise understand by themselves; fools follow the reports of others.” Tibetan Proverb Two Park County deputies have been fired and one reserve deputy has lost his commission after breaking up a party in Pike National Forest by shooting at a beer keg. Reports indicate the party was attended by underage drinkers. Cpl. Glenn A. Hardey, Deputy Richard A. Sonnenberg and Reserve Deputy Steve Materkowski all faced an Internal Affairs Investigation after teens and parents complained that the shooting endangered people at the party in early April. Supposedly one of the sheriff’s deputies wanted to break the lock that held the keg secured to a chain around a tree or fence or something like that…. I can almost see the scene play out as Park County’s finest fish their bag of tricks and find that they have no mechanical key (bolt cutters) and decide to shoot off the lock “cuz that there stuff works just fine in the movies.” Remember, the highway to hell is paved with good intentions…..the kids who posted the party on face book are stupid……and the sheriff’s deputy who shot an innocent beer keg?…genius damn sure does have its limits.

“The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.” Unknown A young lady was sitting in another local hang out and enjoying herself with her girlfriend. I witnessed a gentleman (and I do use the term loosely) was, well, trying to get lucky…..when the young ladies firmly declined the man’s advances his response was “But I have all my teeth!” This guy definitely suffered from limited genius. I couldn’t help but laugh. Only in Womanless Park!

“Stupidity is replicating itself at an enormous rate” Unknown I found out about a program called the rural development program. This government program allows people with a credit score in the mid six hundreds to get a low interest nothing down loan to bolster rural development. I think of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac every time I think of government loans. Now there are two programs that have worked out well for so many people. It has failed however to protect even more people (for example the taxpayer) from stupid government officials. Now if you look at America, especially small towns, you will find that most people live within about fifty miles of where they were born. Now if you start doing the genealogy of folks who live in those areas you will find that they are related. Now we know that intelligence is a genetic situation. It was my experience when I was living in other small towns in America that the smart ones went to college and seldom returned. In fact on an excursion to Michigan with my team once, a local in Trout Creek, somewhere between Sault St. Marie and St. Ignorance (Ignace) a buddy of mine was offered 20 acres of land if he would move there and settle with his daughters to bring some “new blood”. So if ninety percent of people live with fifty miles of where they were born, but the smart ones left…..well you get my drift. Ya just can’t fix stupid……WOOF.
